February 26th, 2017 at the Hunt

Today four of met up for some craft time and chatter in the cafe of the Hunt Museum.

Unfortunately, I was so busy knitting and nattering that I neglected to take any pictures of our works in progress.I’ll make up for that oversight next weekend.

Our venue for Sunday, 5th March is Zest Cafe located in the Limerick City Gallery of Art.

We’ll be there from the usual time of about 2ish to about 5 ish.

This jolly purple giant made us all smile as we made our way in. It’s part of a clean up Limerick campaign.

Hello June

How in the world is it June already? My word.

Hello. I hope you’re all fine and dandy. 🙂

First off, here is the meet up schedule for our group for the month of June.

Secondly, another Hickey’s craft demonstration is planned for tomorrow, Saturday 7th June from 2pm to 4pm.

Next week, Sunday 26th January, we will be in Zest Cafe, Limerick City Gallery of Art, Pery Square from 2pm until 5pm.

Now, we may not be there at 2pm sharp. If you don’t see us, just get yourself a lovely cuppa, settle yourself in a chair and you’ll see our lot drift in and proceed to take out our crafty notions. Just be patient with us, okay? Ours is a relaxed group and Sunday is a chilled out day.

Now, the staff in the venues that we meet up in don’t always realise that we’re there. Zest cafe can be busy and depending on the staff member, they may be new or not generally work on a Sunday, so they may not know who to point you towards.

With the Hunt Cafe, their management know that we’ll be there, but the Hunt Museum reception/shop staff are different and may not realise that we’re downstairs. Someone rang the Hunt museum shop/reception and asked after our group. The poor staff member looked in the event book and didn’t see our name (as we don’t book a room we just use the cafe) and told the person enquiring that there was no such group. This isn’t the staff members fault. The poor guy just didn’t know.

So, just to clarify, when our blog and our facebook page state that we’ll be in the Hunt Cafe or Zest on a particular Sunday, trust that we will be there on that particular Sunday. Calling the venue and asking the staff to confirm that we’re there will leave you none the wiser.

Our group numbers vary from 2 people to 12 people. It depends on the weather, the time of year, how busy people are, what else is going on in the city etc. Regardless of whether there are 2 or 20 of us, just come on over and say hi. We’ll be delighted to meet you.

If you want to make contact with us prior to coming to our group then send us an email to limericksnb AT gmail DOT com. Alternatively, send us a message on our facebook page. Either Lou or Edell will get back to you.

Well hello 2014!

We at Limerick SnB hope that you have had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday.

If you are one of the stalwart employees who works over the holiday season in order to facilitate other peoples enjoyment of it, we salute you and hope that January brings you some well deserved rest.

We will be meeting up again on January 5th. No surprises for guessing that January 5th is a Sunday! 🙂

The Hunt Museum will be our venue. You will find us downstairs in the Cafe. Our meet up will coincide with the Museum’s Nollaig na mBan (Women’s Christmas) celebration.

Here is a link to the Hunt Museum Facebook page and to their Nollaig na mBan Facebook event page.

Their Nollaig na mBan celebration is described as

a miscellany of story, music, readings, poetry, song and dance in celebration of women and the tradition of Nollaig na mBan (Women’s Christmas).
All the Christmas festivities will be followed by refreshments.

A €5 contribution is asked for by The Hunt Museum.

Our group will meet at our usual time of 2pm so that we will have a chance to catch up with each other and meet new people before the Nollaig na mBan event starts.

See you Sunday!

*Please note that our group is, and always has been, open to all genders, ages, and abilities. We’re happy to see new faces and to meet people new to crafting.

18th August Meet up

We’re trying out a new venue for our meet ups.

We will be meeting up in the Limerick Milk Market tomorrow at Bon Appetit .

Galettes shall be eaten, tea and coffee shall be enjoyed and our special guest shall be chatted with.

Our special guest is Mairead Sharry, the extremely talented spinner from the Aran Islands who has promised to come visit us.

You can check out some of her work at www.maireadsharry.blogspot.ie

Even if you don’t spin, it will be well worth the visit to see all our spinners in action.

Mairead is bringing alpaca fleecel for our spinners. You can have the chance to touch alpaca fleece and maybe see some of it being spun.

The Limerick Milk Market is an all weather venue so a bit of rain won’t spoil our meet up.

On a bit of a side note, one of our local yarn stores has been brave and created a business page for themselves on Facebook.

Triona in the Singer Sewing & Wool Centre is only lovely and it would be great to see her page likes hiked. There isn’t a lot of content on the page at the moment as it’s relatively new but that’s bound to change as time goes on. Thank you!

See you tomorrow at the Limerick Milk Market for a bit of a stitch and a bit of a bitch.

Cross Stitch Demo in Hickey’s Limerick

http://instagram.com/p/aAtFtenKqr/

Mary O’Donnell did Limerick Stitch’n’Bitch proud on Saturday during our inaugural craft demo.

Mary worked up a sample cross stitch kit in advance of the day. She also brought along her own recently completed work.

http://instagram.com/p/aAtFtenKqr/

Isn’t it cute? 🙂

The demo in Hickey’s Crusises street store ran from 10am until 12pm. This was followed by a second cross stitch demo in Hickey’s Parkway store.

http://instagram.com/p/aAsvsanKqb/

Mary said that she thoroughly enjoyed herself.

The people who stopped at her table were treated to a display of cross stitch kits of different types and levels of difficulty.

Thanks to Mary’s advance preparation people were also able to take a piece of aida, embroidery thread and needle and create their very own cross stitch duck.

Our next demo is due to be on Saturday, 6th July. We’ll follow the same timetable with a demo in the Cruises street store in the morning followed by a demo in the Parkway store in the afternoon.

We got a mention in the paper!

The only itsy bitsy mistake in it is they say we meet every Sunday, but as you know, we meet every 2nd Sunday.

The next craft area to be focused on will be knitting. We’ll have more on that a bit closer to the time

Thanks to Mary promoting our group, we had another cross stitcher join our group on Sunday.

Liz brought in her current work-in-progress.

Sweet, isn’t it?

It’s lovely to see craft diversity in the group.

Our other new member Kay brought in this lovely fellow to show us. Isn’t he darling?

Mary, who joined us a month ago, has started to knit and she’s doing very well indeed.

http://instagram.com/p/aDw49inKmN/

It was lovely to have Edell’s spinning wheel whirling in the corner. It piqued some of the patron’s interest.

We were joined by a lovely little girl who tried her hand at spinning and also showed interest in everyone’s works-in-progress. She was a charming addition to our group. We let her dad know that we meet in Zest every 2nd Sunday and would be delighted to show his daughter how to craft. We would also be delighted to share our skillsets with him too.

I think we’re all caught up now.

Killaloe World Wide Knit in Public Day is on Saturday, 15th June. It’s going to be in the vicinity of the library.

Happy crafting folks!

An interesting proposal

Hickey’s on Cruises Street have approached us to see if our members would like to give demonstrations in a variety of different craft areas.

It would be one Saturday a month, though they are willing to be flexible to accommodate the craft demonstrator.

Lou will give a knitting demonstration and is taking them up on giving a course on knitting basics.

Edell has expressed interest in sharing her skills.

Hickey’s are also looking for a crafter who can demonstrate cross stitch and another who can demonstrate patchwork and another who can demo the use of embellishments.

Do we have any takers?

Hickey’s are looking to have an hour long demonstration in whichever craft is being shown.

They will provide a table and can also provide a sewing machine and other such resources.

Their ideal would be to have two demos during the day.

They are willing to negotiate remuneration for the crafters time.

Please send an email to limericksnb AT gmail DOT com if you would be interested in giving it a go or would like further information.

Our next meet up will be on May 5th from 2pm to 5pm in Zest Cafe, Limerick City Gallery of Art, Pery Square, Limerick.

See you then! 🙂

We have been thinking…..

and pondering and sharing ideas.

Our last meet up was on Sunday 7th. It was full of natter and admiration of each others works-in-progress.

One idea, put forward by our lovely crosstitcher Mary,  is that our group attend the Cappamore Show and possibly enter some of our pieces in the Craft section of the show.

Regardless of whether we enter anything, we think that it would be lovely to make a day trip to it.

The Cappamore Show will be on Saturday, 17th August. That gives us plenty of time to organise ourselves.

Please get in contact with us via our email, limericksnb AT gmail DOT com, if you would be interested in coming with us.

Our next idea involves a residential craft weekend.

We’ve been chatting about it on our Facebook page.

The idea is that we would block book a B&B and pool our resources.

Some people want to learn how to make socks.

We have a crafter for that!

Some people want to learn how to crochet.

We have crafters for that!

The lovely Edell has offered to teach us about socks and is willing to show us some drop spindling.

Lou can get people started with crochet.

Theresa has offered to demonstrate chicken scratch embroidery.

We even have a fan of our Facebook page willing to travel from Germany to take part!

So, questions that remain to be answered :

  • Should we have the residential weekend in a Limerick City B&B?
  • Should we head elsewhere?
  • When should we arrange the residential weekend for?

Answers via email to limericksnb AT gmail DOT com 🙂

Our next meet up is on Sunday, April 20th from approximately 2pm to 5pm.

Learner’s Market at Thomond Park

What can we say but gosh we’ve had a great day.

Wonderfully engaged people, a variety of different ages, newcomers and old hands alike.

Craft books were read, needles and hooks were tried by first timers, yarns were handled and compared. Oh the talking, laughing, exchanging of ideas and fomenting of plans.

We need a good rest after all that exitement.

To see some pictures of the day please do take a peek at our Facebook page. If you’re not on Facebook then having a look at Lou’s blog will give you a flavour of our day.

Don’t forget that our group is meeting up tomorrow in Zest Cafe which is located in Limerick City Gallery of Art, Carnegie House, Pery Square. We’ll be there from 2pm until 5pm.

Happy crafting to you all.
